Role of elastin for maintenance of young and healthy skin
Elastic fibres is an essential part of human skin. They are required to maintain elastic function of the skin over lifetime. Loss of elasticity, as a result of elastic fibre degradation, is a major contributing factor in ageing of connective tissues, including skin.
The production of elastin in the body decreases significantly over lifetime, and by the time we are middle-aged, only a trickle of elastin is produced. Thus we rely mostly on the elastin that was deposited in the womb and during the first years of life.
However, in the event of damage to the elastin in the skin of adults following sun burns or simply as a result of ageing, the low level of elastin production may mean that the damage cannot be efficiently repaired, and the skin gradually loses its elasticity.

Oral and topical application of Elastin 
For many years oral and topical application of Elastin has been pursued by researches as useful in the regeneration of elastic tissues.
Oral administration of Elastin found its place in anti-aging supplements for skin suffering from dryness, environmental stresses, or irritation. The recommended daily dosage of oral Elastin is 200 mg.
Topical application of Elastin is based on elastin's ability to bind to moisture. Elastin can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it an excellent natural skin plumper.

Customized grades:
Our Elastin grade contains min 1 % of Desmosine + Isodesmosine. BIOFAC can manufacture Elastin grades tailored to the customers' specifications. In particular, we offer Elastin isolated from porcine aorta and Elastin originated from fish.

Manufacturing process:
The manufacturing process includes a solvent-free extraction method with further purification steps such as ultra-filtration, and spray drying.

Storage and Stability
The product should be stored in original and tightly closed containers at room temperature, not exceeding 25 °C. The product is a hygroscopic powder that easily absorbs humidity from the air. Expiry date is 2 years from date of production, if stored as advised above.
